Senior Member Location: Morgan County, Alabama 'In Dixie Land I'll take my stand.' | Are you SURE it is not a .38 Special caliber gun? .38 SP came out (IIRC) in 1902. It would be odd (but NOT impossible) for a 1924 era marked Colt revolver to be .38 S&W. .38 S&W is a 'heel' type cartridge, similar to the .22 rimfire (except .38 is not rimfire). It is a shorter cartridge than the .38 SP and definantly NOT interchangeable. If you are unsure you should have a gunsmith, or someone who is very knowledgeable in these types of guns examine your revolver. Such a person would be able to tell what cartridge without a lot of problem. EDIT: research seems to indicate your gun is the same as a 'Colt Official Police' model. I found no record of this being made in .38 S&W, only in .38 SP, .22, and .32-20. However, I would not take this as decisive information. Photos would help. I happen to own a Official Police and one thing that stands out it it has an unshrouded ejector rod, while many other .38s had a shroud. |
